Amitran - Work Programme

 

Amitran’s work plan follows the system engineering V-model path. The project was organised in seven work packages (WP):

WP1 - Project Management

The main objective of this work package was to ensure an effective and timely management of the project activities. TNO was responsible for the project coordination between partners, organisation of consortium meetings, administrative and financial management and quality assurance.

WP2 - User needs and use cases

The project started with WP2, led by DLR, with the definition of user needs and use cases based on the active participation by relevant stakeholders. The identified needs built the basis for the development of requirements towards the modelling framework on one hand. On the other hand, the identified user needs were reflected in the use cases defined for the development and validation of the modelling framework and the ITS typology.

WP3 - Analysis and structuring of ITS impacts

In WP3, led by DLR, ITS applications were grouped into categories according to the strength of their effect on CO2 emissions and according to the parameters through which their influence is exerted.  These categories constitute the modelling framework in WP4 which the models can access for quantifying the impact on CO2 emissions by the specific ITS application.

WP4 - Assessment model framework and architecture

WP4, led by TNO, involved the definition of the methodology framework, system architecture and model requirements. Other developments included a methodology for scaling up the results and a database with statistics needed for a scaling up methodology.

WP5 - Open interface development

Led by PTV, this work package carried on the work of developing the methodological framework to assess CO2 emissions (cf. previous section), the interfaces between existing models, and the identification of any gaps to be filled. The general description of the open interfaces were independent of models used in this project, allowing them to be implemented into any comparable software. These interfaces have been implemented in models available to the partners and are available in the Results - WP5 section of this website.

WP6 - Validation of Impact assessment methodology

Validation tasks were coordinated by Tecnalia by comparing Amitran's results with those from selected research projects dealing with ITS. Evaluation of the methodology was done by means of a validation plan and finally by executing the plan in order to determine the usefulness of the methodology in comparison to the initial situation. An impact assessment was performed using the methodology developed in WP5 to demonstrate the effects of ITS on CO2 emissions, energy efficiency, driver behaviour, and traffic flow.

WP7 - Dissemination, liaison and exploitation

Led by ERTICO, the final result of Amitran was a wiki-format Knowledge Base site with checklist and guidance to be used for methodological reference by future projects when assessing ITS benefits.
